Prototyping

Testing Solutions for Household Food Waste

The prototyping stage focuses on transforming ideas into practical and testable solutions to reduce household food waste. Based on the visual design, this stage explores a range of innovative approaches, including smart technologies such as fridge reminder apps, public awareness campaigns, and incentive-based strategies to encourage behaviour change. A key prototype developed in this project is the Family Food Waste Toolkit, which includes a meal planner, food storage guide, and leftover recipe ideas to support everyday decision-making in households. Additionally, data-driven insights from survey results and visual charts are used to identify common waste patterns, such as over-purchasing and wasting leftovers, allowing solutions to be tailored to real needs. The prototyping process also involves testing ideas such as community education programs and digital tools, gathering feedback, and refining solutions to ensure they are practical, user-friendly, and effective in reducing food waste. This iterative approach ensures that the final solution is both evidence-based and responsive to the needs of Australian households.
